Following the events in the Fifties and Sixties, further years of disruptions on the transit routes occured before the breakthrough in East/West relations came.
Differences in political outlooks and basic positions were laid aside and practical matters discussed in a series of talks. The end result was the signing of the Quadripartite Agreement on 3 June 1972. In it major sources of friction were dissolved and arrangements were made for improvment access to and from West Berlin.
