In 1984 during reorganization of the Combat Arms system the three battalions of the 6th Infantry were reflagged as 4th, 5th and 6th battalion 502nd Infantry. Having it's sister battalions reactivated in the 2nd Brigade of the 101st Airborne Division lots of personnel was rotated between Berlin and Ft. Rucker, Al.
In 1993-1994, soldiers of the 5th and 6th Battalions deployed to the Republic of Macedonia ("Operation Able Sentry") as part of the United Nations Protective Force, helping to keep ethnic tensions from erupting in violence and contributing to the stability of the region.
